Acton House

Located at the top of Church Street at 22 Knighton Road, Acton House is now a lovely private dwelling, but roll the clock back a couple of centuries and it was one of Clun's coaching inns.

1911 Census - home of retired farmer Jane Davies

It is a Grade II listed building with the following description online.

CLUN C.P.

KNIGHTON ROAD

(North-west side)

House. Mid-to-late C18, possibly remodelling of earlier building.

Roughcast, probably over timber frame; slate roof. 2 storeys and gable-lit attic. Integral brick end-stack to left. 2-window front; glazing bar sashes, 16-pane on ground floor to right; 5 steps up to central mid-to-late C19 four-panelled door (flush bottom panels) with early C19 lead-canopied porch.

Listing NGR: SO2999880617

There is limited information about its history as an Inn recorded online, but the following was provided by a local resident...

"I lived in Acton house from 1969 to 1982. It was a coaching inn joined to the house next door but divided in two in the late 60s" (Anna Mason Memories of Clun).

1939 Register Marion Davies
