Bryn House, located at 20 Castle Street, Clun was once a coaching inn dating back to the 1600s. It ceased to trade sometime in the 1700s and today is a private dwelling, named, "Bryn House". The following information has been provided by a neighbour of the property, for whom I am very grateful.
"I live next door to Bryn House and when we moved in, the then owners told me that the deeds showed that it was a pub opened in the late 1600s. It has changed hands twice since then and the present owners have no knowledge of this fact... our house joins on to Bryn House and is very quirky. The different architectural features suggest that it may have been the working part of the pub i.e. the laundry, bake kitchen and food kitchen. Bryn House has a large cellar and so do we, but no connecting doorway past or present. Ours was definitely used as a coal cellar in the past with a coal delivery shute."
"Before the present owners of Bryn House moved in I used to use part of the garden as a vegetable plot for us and the gentleman who lived there. I was always digging up bits of clay pipes… early ones with small bowls as well as later ones with bigger bowls and various pieces of crockery, some quite early slip ware."
